During an appearance on CNN's "Inside Politics," to discuss Donald Trump's recent conviction on 34 felony counts, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) used the opportunity to bash Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and say the Florida Republican is the one who should actually be on trial.

After host Manu Raju brought up the eight GOP House members who were at the forefront of ousting McCarthy from his long sought-after speaker's chair, McCarthy singled out Gaetz who has been under investigation for sexual relations with underaged women.

According to McCarthy, Gaetz's House rabblerousing in the chamber was designed to deflect from his own ethical problems.

"Why do you want him out? Is it simply because he led the charge to push you out?" the host asked.

"No, I just don't think Gaetz is a conservative," McCarthy shot back. "I mean, if you think about it, if there's anybody who should go to trial, I mean, Gaetz is one who should be convicted at a trial. "

"Why? Why do you say that?" the CNN host pressed.

"We all know the challenge here, you can't sleep with under-age women and think you can get away with it," McCarthy explained.

"He denies that," Raju countered

"Well, the women don't and so there's people in jail because of it," McCarthy elaborated. "I just don't think that is an individual who should be representing in Congress and I don't think the constituents would want that either."
