Arne Slot has spoken to the Liverpool board about signing ‘really fast’ striker this summer

Arne Slot will have grand plans at Liverpool, with the Dutch manager now hard at work on Merseyside.

He officially took over from Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout on 1 June, and will now be working through his to-do list as pre-season approaches.

There is, of course, the small matter of Euro 2024 to take place first, with Slot simply hoping that all of his players make it through unscathed.

The boss will more than likely be watching those Anfield men this summer, but at the same time will have his sights set on new faces.

A new attacker is seemingly among the priorities ahead of the new season, and it seems that Slot could turn to his former club in order to achieve that goal.

Arne Slot speaks to Liverpool about Santiago Gimenez

Having just left Feyenoord, the manager is keen to bring star striker Santiago Gimenez with him to Anfield.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a stunning season last time out, registering tallies of 26 goals and eight assists from 41 appearances in all competitions.

The Mexico international certainly has the approval of former Liverpool attacker Dirk Kuyt, who has spoken very highly of Gimenez: “He’s back here in the middle of the defenders and he’s really fast.

“Watching the keeper before he shoots, the rest. In my opinion, he is currently the best striker in the Eredivisie.”

And the new Anfield boss is also keen on his former striker, with CaughtOffside reporting that Gimenez was among the Feyenoord players discussed in terms of Premier League potential during talks between the Reds and Slot.

Can Liverpool win the race for Santiago Gimenez?

As will be the case with many top players this summer, talented forward Gimenez won’t just be pursued by one club.

And unfortunately for the Reds, their Premier League rivals Tottenham are leading the chase for the Mexican, Rousing The Kop understands.

Liverpool would, however, be foolish not to at least throw their hat in the ring, with Gimenez certain to improve their attacking line.

Quick, tall, strong and clinical in the final third – and indeed only 23 years old – the striker is only going to get better.

He should also enjoy a smooth transition at Anfield, not only because he used to work with Slot, but also given that the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch all have experience of playing in the Eredivisie before moving to Merseyside.
