'Top-quality': Kieran Trippier says he's been left stunned by just how good player Man City let go in 2023 is

Kieran Trippier has claimed that he has been surprised by how brilliant a player Manchester City sold last summer is.

Considering Manchester City promote the best possible young players and sign those that elevate their team, even when they sell players, their quality remains undeniable.

In addition, not every sale City has made occurred due to their desire to offload a player.

Trippier surprised by “quality” player Man City sold last summer

In February, Pep Guardiola revealed that if Cole Palmer continued to wait in the wings, he would have been given more minutes at Manchester City. But the Catalan acknowledged that Palmer is an “exceptional player.”

Speaking to talkSPORT, Kieran Trippier emphasised that he has been surprised by how excellent Cole Palmer is after training with him on England duty.

The Newcastle United right-back said: “It’s the first time I’ve trained with Cole [Palmer]; he’s really surprised me — a top-quality player.”

When quizzed about what impresses him about Cole Palmer, Kieran Trippier replied: “It’s just how he finds the pockets.”

“His awareness for where other people are and how clever he is for such a young age.”

“It’s the first time I’ve trained with him this week, I am really happy that I’ve trained with him, he’s been quality.”

Cole Palmer would have struggled for minutes at Manchester City

It is no surprise to hear Kieran Trippier praising Cole Palmer, who continues to grow from strength to strength.

In our view, if Cole Palmer had decided to stay at Manchester City, he perhaps would have struggled for regular playing time.

Palmer would have got more starts this season, due to the departures of attackers like Mahrez and Gundogan.

But with Pep Guardiola often deploying either Phil Foden or Bernardo Silva on the right-wing, he may have found it difficult to start in his natural position.

The Englishman is capable of playing behind the striker but the likes of Foden, Alvarez and De Bruyne would have provided him stiff competition for a starting place.

Cole Palmer will perhaps feel he made the right decision to sign for Chelsea as he seems set for a spot in England’s Euro 2024 squad, playing alongside top players like Kieran Trippier.

While Manchester City will point to their Premier League triumph to justify the 22-year-old’s exit.
