Celtic are well into the off-season as international football takes precedence across the footballing landscape for the next few weeks.

Brendan Rodgers will be working hard in the shadows to identify potential transfer targets to bolster his squad. Meanwhile, the Irishman also has to make decisions on existing players at the club, including returning loanees.

Bosun Lawal enjoyed an excellent campaign on loan at Fleetwood Town, registering six goals and two assists from 47 appearances in a new-found midfield role [Transfermarkt].

Due to his performances, the 21-year-old has impressed Republic of Ireland boss John O’Shea, which led to an invite for him to train with their senior side ahead of their friendly double-header against Hungary and Portugal.

Despite initially being drafted in to train with the Boys in Green, Lawal has now been officially promoted into the Republic of Ireland senior side for their match against Hungary due to an injury to Nottingham Forest defender Andrew Omobamidele.

The official Ireland Football account stated on social media platform X: “Squad Update | Lawal promoted to MNT squad. Bosun Lawal, who has been training with the MNT this week, has been promoted to the MNT squad for the Hungary match, before returning to U21 duty. Andrew Omobamidele has been ruled out through injury and will return home.”

Following Tuesday night’s clash in Dublin, Lawal will return to Under-21 duty. Liam Scales, Mikey Johnston and Adam Idah are also present in the camp.
