Russia and China are resorting to large-scale sabotage against Ukraine's peace summit, discrediting the meeting and trying to convince other countries not to participate, says the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba at a press conference with his Estonian counterpart Margus Tsahkna.
"The stronger the opposition, the more significant the initiative. If the peace summit was a passing event, we would not have seen such opposition," Kuleba said.
The minister says that China and Russia are currently using three ways to sabotage the meeting:
- discrediting the peace summit. Beijing and Moscow are sending letters and making statements that the meeting is allegedly of no value;
- attempts to convince countries not to participate in the summit;
- attempts to convince countries that have already agreed to participate in the meeting to attend the summit at the lowest level.
"The opposing is at large scale. But our partners and I will set a precedent when the peace summit will be convened not on the terms of the aggressor or mediator, but on the terms of the United Nations Charter," Kuleba added.
According to the minister, provocative activities are concerning Asia, Africa, and South America.
Peace summit
The meeting will take place in Switzerland on July 15-16. The summit will discuss the Ukrainian peace formula, which aims to bring the end of the full-scale war in Ukraine closer on fair terms. Currently, Kyiv has received confirmation from 106 countries of their participation in the meeting.
Meanwhile, China has refused to participate in the meeting because its demands have not been met.
