Real Madrid will pay €4.5m to Borussia Dortmund for defeating the Bundesliga side in the Champions League final after triggering a clause in Jude Bellingham's contract.
The Spanish giants claimed European success on Saturday following a tense match where late goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior separated the sides. Dortmund were unable to end their 27-year wait for Champions League glory, but are now set to receive a cushioning sum from their opponents.
Bellingham made the switch from Dortmund to Madrid in the summer of 2023, initially for a fee of €103m. This sum could rise to €133.9m if specific criteria is to be met.
Reports have revealed that one of the clauses in his contract tied directly to the Champions League, stating that if Bellingham was to win the tournament, Madrid would have to pay an extra €4.5m to Dortmund.
Dortmund are also expected to receive another bonus of around €2m as Bellingham has been named in the Champions League Team of the Season.
As such, the Bundesliga side's loss in the final may actually see them earn €22.5m compared to the €20m they would've received for winning it.
While Saturday marked a monumental day for Madrid - becoming the only club to reach 15 Champions League titles - it signified a more individual achievement for Bellingham, who lifted his first European trophy with La Liga's new champions.
His debut season in Spain also saw him achieve win La Liga, with Madrid finishing a comfortable 10 points ahead of rivals Barcelona.
Bellingham will soon join up with his England teammates ahead of Euro 2024 in Germany, but will first be handed some much deserved time off.
