Football: Kamada confirms leaving Lazio, mum about next destination

Japan midfielder Daichi Kamada on Monday confirmed his departure from Lazio in the Italian top flight but was circumspect about where he will play next.

The 27-year-old, who joined Lazio on a free transfer last summer, entered negotiations on a contract extension with the Rome club, but the two sides could not agree to terms.

He has been linked to a move to Crystal Palace in the English Premier League and a reunion with manager Oliver Glasner, for whom he played at Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Bundesliga.

"I wanted a one-year contract with Lazio and didn't care about the money. We just couldn't make it work," Kamada said in Chiba, near Tokyo, where he trained with the national team.

"You never know what will happen until a deal is signed, but I'm 100 percent sure I'm leaving Lazio."

Kamada will travel with the Samurai Blue squad for Thursday's World Cup qualifier against Myanmar in Yangon. He is back with the national team for the first time since last November, having missed the Asian Cup in Qatar early this year.
