Considering the missile attacks that occurred two nights ago, Russia has already destroyed 9.2 GW of Ukrainian power generation, citing European Union Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova.

According to Mathernova, during a visit to Ukraine with Ukrainian politicians, they discussed the key priorities for Ukraine in the coming months, including the urgent need for energy equipment to help mitigate the effects of continuous Russian missile attacks on the energy infrastructure.

"Including the attack from two nights ago, Russia has destroyed whooping 9.2GW of Ukrainian generation," the statement reads.

Situation in Ukraine's energy system

In the spring, Russian occupiers resumed shelling Ukraine's energy sector. Distribution networks, thermal power plants (TPPs), and combined heat and power plants (CHPPs) were destroyed and severely damaged.

Specifically, on June 1, the Russians again attacked Ukraine's energy sector. Energy facilities in five regions were damaged. Occupiers shelled two TPPs and two hydroelectric power plants (HPPs). The largest hydroelectric power station in Ukraine, DniproHES in Zaporizhzhia, was hit.

Amid the widespread damage, periodic power outages are being implemented in Ukraine.
