Manchester United face complication over £60m Michael Olise, but it could be good news

Many top European clubs are dealing with the unwanted headache of the Olympics tournament taking place in late July and early August.

Argentina made a request to use Alejandro Garnacho at the tournament, a decision Manchester United have now rejected.

Others have not shown the same firm hand, and Olympic hosts France are determined to put together a strong squad for the tournament.

One of the names called up is Michael Olise, report RMC Sport, with the Premier League winger named in the squad by under-21 coach Thierry Henry.

Michael Olise complication for Manchester United

Michael Olise is a transfer target for Manchester United this summer, with Teamtalk reporting the Red Devils are battling Chelsea for his signature.

Olise has a £60 million release clause in his contract, Goal report. He was outstanding last season for Crystal Palace, netting twice against United.

However, his Olympic call is an unwanted complication, as it means Manchester United would be without him for the final two weeks of pre-season, including the Community Shield.

So even if Olise was signed early, United fans might not get to see him until the opening day of the Premier League season. A short-term inconvenience, but something to bear in mind.

Why Olise call could be good news for United

Let us lay out why the Olympic call for Michael Olise may work to Manchester United’s benefit.

Olise is a potentially key signing – but he should not be a priority signing for the club this summer.

It is far more important United sign a centre-back and a striker. A central midfielder will also likely be needed to replace Casemiro.

Only when these deals are complete, should United look at signing Olise, by which point funds could have been accrued from player sales, with both Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho up for sale.

Other clubs who choose to prioritise Olise may stand a better chance of landing him.

But if they are put off by his Olympic call-up, unable to use him until mid-August, then it keeps Manchester United in the race, for a late window swoop.

Moving later for Olise rather than early, fits with what United want to do this summer. The call-up to Paris 2024 actually could be handy.
