The MLS 2024 season continues throughout the summer, despite the 2024 Copa America tournament, and does not end until right before the holiday season in the United States.
Unlike the top five European soccer leagues, Major League Soccer did not host their first game of the 2024 season until February. Therefore, the MLS regular season continues far past the conclusion of the Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga, Ligue 1, and Serie A.
The MLS also contains a postseason playoff format, similar to football or hockey, that determines the champions of the league; the club with the most points at the end of the regular season must survive a bracket of the highest competition that extends the season well into the winter.
So, when exactly does the MLS season end in 2024?
When does the MLS 2024 season end?
The MLS 2024 regular season ends on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024. The action-packed Decision Day features 14 matches across the Eastern and Western Conferences that just might decide the final teams in the MLS Cup Playoffs.
At the end of Decision Day, 18 clubs will qualify for the postseason. The top seven teams from each conference will secure their place in the 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs Round One Best-of-3 series. Then, the eighth and ninth seeded teams from the Eastern and Western Conferences will meet in their respective MLS Cup Playoffs Wild Card game.
The MLS 2024 season will officially end for the remaining teams that finish outside the top nine in each conference.
The MLS 2024 postseason will unfold throughout October and November until the MLS Cup kicks off on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024. The team with the better regular-season record will get to play the final in their home stadium.
