The Israeli embassy in Romania's capital Bucharest was targeted by an incendiary device on Monday.
Romanian media reported that a 34-year-old man threw an explosive at an office building containing the Israeli embassy before attempting to set himself on fire.
Security forces responsible for protecting the embassy overpowered the man, a Syrian citizen, before extinguishing the fire and handing him over to police.
A display board at the entrance to the office building was damaged, but the Israeli embassy on the fifth floor was unharmed.
A police spokesman told the television channel Digi24 that the attack had no connection to the current conflict in the Middle East. The man was reportedly unsatisfied with his situation.
