Ty Gibbs narrowly avoided hitting his tire changer — and ironically enough, his cousin — on pit road during the Enjoy Illinois 300 at World Wide Technology Raceway.

The wheelman’s pit crew features his cousin Jackson Gibbs as part of his No. 54 team, and there was a scary moment on pit road on Sunday afternoon. As Ty Gibbs peeled off after a pit stop, Jackson Gibbs was still in-front of his No. 54 Toyota, and he had to utilize some ninja-moves to get out of the way.

Check out the video below, as a potential disaster was averted by Jackson Gibbs, clearing Ty Gibbs’ conscience and allowing his cousin to continue on during Sunday’s race.

“Just love from one cousin to another,” Joe Gibbs Racing wrote on X (formerly know as Twitter), hilariously accompanying the video.

After his moment in the sun during Sunday’s race, Jackson Gibbs is enjoying some compliments for his speed in getting out of the way, including one he re-posted on X from Toby Christie of Racing America.

“… @jgibbs_11 is a certified ninja, confirmed,” Christie posted. “I always love seeing all of the wild stuff that happens on pit road that we don’t see in realtime during the race on Sunday. Thanks for sharing this, @JoeGibbsRacing!”

FOX Sports has made a concerted effort to highlight the pit crews of the drivers in NASCAR, and it’s easy to see why, when there’s storylines like the one we saw on Sunday between Ty Gibbs and Jackson Gibbs.

Thankfully the latter is alright, and he’ll be able to be there whenever his cousin gets the No. 54 to victory lane, which feels like it’ll happen sooner rather than later in the Cup Series.

More on NASCAR’s Enjoy Illinois 300

While Ty Gibbs avoided disaster, Ryan Blaney suffered the agony of defeat on Sunday afternoon during the Enjoy Illinois 300.

While leading the race in the closing laps, Blaney ran out of gas, and his teammate in Austin Cindric was the beneficiary, as the No. 2 Ford passed the No. 12 for the victory on the final lap. It was an awesome moment for Cindric, and a demoralizing one for Blaney.

While Blaney was disappointed after the race, he still managed to congratulate his teammate in Cindric, while putting his situation in perspective amid another disappointing finish.

“They [Austin Cindric and his team] were great, they did a great job,” Blaney said, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. “Yeah, happy for that team, I mean obviously, bummed for us. Just the nut shots keep coming here this past month.

“Hopefully, it straightens itself out just proud of the effort have to figure out what happened there if we thought we had more fuel than we did. It’s not like we left it short on purpose, just thought we had more. So we’ll have to figure it out, dig into that, but proud of all of Team Penske today.”

Alas, time will tell when Ryan Blaney’s next win comes, but there’s always the possibility he could turn things around quick over the course of the summer, as he looks to join his teammate Austin Cindric in the playoffs.
