Entering June, the plan for Jesup (Ga.) Wayne County four-star linebacker Tavion Wallace was to announce his commitment on July 15. That has now changed.
On Monday evening, Wallace, one of the top players at his position this cycle, announced that he has moved his commitment date up to July 2. He will choose between Arkansas, Florida, Florida State and Georgia.
“Change of plans. Where’s home?,” Wallace wrote.
Wallace is the No. 58 overall prospect and No. 3 LB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 10 player in Georgia.
The blue-chipper is coming off his first official visit, which came at Arkansas over the weekend. Georgia (June 7), Florida (June 14) and Florida State (June 21) will have him back on campus for officials across the next three weekends.
Entering his officials, there is a leader. Last week at the On3 Elite Series — an educational seminar discussing the new era of NIL and navigating life after football — Wallace told On3’s Chad Simmons that Florida State is the program currently on top.
“Really, they’re family-oriented,” Wallace said about FSU. “Because every time I go back, it feels like family and I love the consistency. That’s one of the biggest things in my recruitment, the family feeling. That’s what I’m going to decide on when I decide which school I’m going to.”
Gators, Seminoles also pushing hard
While Wallace’s other three finalists may be chasing the Noles for now, there’s connections and intrigue with each program. Wallace grew up a Florida fan and has the chance to dawn blue and orange at the next level.
“Really getting the experience. Growing up a Florida fan, I always wanted to go to the facility and chill and everything,” Wallace said of what he likes most about UF. “To get that experience has really been a blessing.”
When it comes to Georgia, Bulldogs linebackers coach Glenn Schumann is as good as they come on the recruiting trail — and he continues to develop the résumé to prove that, thanks to the amount of talent moving to the next level after spending time in Athens.
“How they develop players,” Wallace said when asked about what intrigues him about Georgia. “Me and coach Schumann have a bond together on and off the field — I can call him any day, any time. Then, how they develop players. They compare me to Roquan (Smith), so that’s a big comparison.”
