Here’s what West Norfolk voters need to know ahead of general election day on July 4

With election day already fast approaching, here is everything you need to know about voting.

Voter registration:

Anyone wanting to vote at the general election must be registered by midnight on Tuesday, June 18.

People wishing to vote must register by midnight on Tuesday, June 18

Similarly, those who want to submit their vote by post must apply for a postal vote by midnight on Wednesday, June 19.

Poll cards:

Polling cards are set to be sent out this week and should start arriving from Friday, June 7.

They will give details of the date of the election and tell residents which polling station to attend.

If you are voting in person, you can only vote at the polling station named on the card.

If you do not receive a poll card by Wednesday, June 12, and you have registered, you should contact the borough council.

Photo ID:

Voters must bring photo ID with them to the polling station to receive their ballot paper.

A wide range of photo IDs are accepted, including a UK or Northern Ireland photocard driving licence, or a driving licence issued by an EU country, a UK passport, a passport issued by an EU or a Commonwealth country, a PASS card (National Proof of Age Standards Scheme), a Blue Badge, or most photo bus passes

Proxy voting:

Those wishing to vote in person, but who cannot attend a polling station on election day, can apply for a proxy to vote on their behalf by 5pm on Wednesday, June 26.

Key election deadlines:

June 7: Publication of Statement of Persons Nominated

June 18: Voter registration (midnight)

June 19: New postal vote applications, or applications to amend existing absent voting arrangements (midnight)

June 26: Applications to vote by proxy (5pm)

July 4: Emergency proxy applications (5pm)
