A "serious risk situation" reported from the Germany-Ukraine friendly game in Nuremberg on Monday evening was a false alarm, police have confirmed.

Shortly after 11 pm (2100 GMT), security forces had discovered an object suspected of containing explosives outside the stadium, according to initial police reports.

However, the investigation revealed that there was no actual threat at any time.

The German squad and media representatives had initially been asked to remain in the stadium while police were dealing with the situation.

Police had cordoned off the area as a precautionary measure, delaying the departure of the two team buses.

Some spectators were briefly unable to leave the stadium and were escorted outside via a different route for safety reasons.

"We are aware of a dangerous situation outside the stadium, which we are taking very seriously," police initially stated.

Shortly before the announcement by the security forces, national coach Julian Nagelsmann had just finished his press conference. Some players, such as Manuel Neuer, were still in the interview zone. After around 15 minutes, the police gave the all-clear.
