Report: What Enzo Maresca told Chelsea about their current squad before his appointment as manager

Enzo Maresca has already made his feelings about Chelsea’s current squad clear to the club’s co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.

Enzo Maresca was named as the new Chelsea manager on Monday, arriving at Stamford Bridge on an initial five-year deal.

Under his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino, the Blues finished the season strongly.

They won all of their final five Premier League fixtures. However, it was not enough to get Chelsea into the top four.

In the end, their sixth-placed finish could not even get them into the Europa League after Manchester United’s victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Enzo Maresca’s thoughts on Chelsea squad

Despite Chelsea finishing sixth this season, it looks like Maresca has a lot of faith in the club’s squad.

According to The Athletic, Winstanley and Stewart flew to Marbella to conduct negotiations with Maresca.

During them, the 44-year-old made it clear that he felt Chelsea’s squad is good enough to be in the top four.

They failed to finish there this season, but that will no doubt be the team’s main aim next term.

Chelsea will also have a great opportunity to win a trophy after dropping down to Europe’s third-tier competition, the Europa Conference League.

Is Chelsea’s squad really good enough to finish in the top four next season?

There is quality everywhere. For example, in attack, Chelsea have Cole Palmer, who came up with an incredible 33 goal contributions in 33 Premier League appearances for the club this term.

In midfield, they also have Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, the two most expensive signings in the club’s history.

If everyone stays fit and another centre-forward gets added to the squad to support Nicolas Jackson, Maresca really should be guiding the team to a top-four finish.

RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is one striker who is currently being linked with a move to west London. According to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea are confident that they can land him.
