England fans react after what Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold did vs Bosnia and Herzegovina

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold put in a goal-scoring display for England on Monday.

Ever since making his debut in 2018, question marks have surrounded Alexander-Arnold’s role for his country.

Although he’s arguably one of the best players in the Premier League, the Liverpool academy graduate has struggled to nail down a place in England’s team.

While he’s shone at Anfield ever since breaking into the side as a teenager, it has been a different story on the international stage.

Well-stocked at right-back, manager Gareth Southgate has now resorted to trying Alexander-Arnold out in midfield. Although England legend Wayne Rooney is not convinced, his fellow Scouser has now put down some compelling evidence that he should stay in the team.

England fans react to Trent Alexander-Arnold display

Alexander-Arnold has become a player who really divides opinion. Not at Liverpool, it must be said. Reds fans haven’t ever been anything other than convinced over the 25-year-old’s quality.

Despite his clear brilliance, that same confidence is not always transmitted by rival supporters and debate about Trent’s defensive capabilities follows him around in the media.

Nevertheless, the papers were impressed by Alexander-Arnold against Bosnia and Herzegovina and it seems that England supporters were too.

Taking to X, some hailed the Liverpool man’s knack for ‘unlocking’ the best out of his team.

Of course, England do have other options heading into this summer’s tournament in Germany.

But whether it’s in midfield or in his natural right-back role, some supporters think Alexander-Arnold has shown that he is simply too good not to start.

Not everybody impressed by Alexander-Arnold

Despite his performance seemingly starting to win over England fans, not everyone was quite as impressed by Alexander-Arnold.

It seems that no matter what the Liverpool man does at Anfield or with his country, some simply will not accept him.

In some ways, Southgate’s decision to start Alexander-Arnold last night signalled that he himself is still not completely convinced.

The team the manager put out against Bosnia and Herzegovina was a good one, but it did have a whiff of a second team.

In amongst that, Trent largely stood out. But it still seems to be very much the case that the Liverpool man is still not quite in Southgate’s favoured XI.

Bit by bit though, the tide feels to be turning a little for Alexander-Arnold. If the fans can get more on side, that can only be a good thing.
