'I haven't': Andy Robertson explains why he hasn't spoken to Arne Slot at all since he was appointed

Liverpool players are getting used to the fact that they have a new head coach at the club.

Aside from Joe Gomez, no current player has ever known a different manager at Anfield.

If things are strange for supporters, then it will be even weirder for the players. After so many years, things are starting afresh at the AXA Training Centre.

As a result, it would be good if the Liverpool squad could reconvene as soon as possible after the summer break. There’s plenty of work to be done.

Unfortunately though, the calendar dictates that there is tournament football this year. With Euro 2024 and the Copa America set to take place, it will be a while before a lot of the players even meet Arne Slot.

Andy Robertson explains lack of contact with Arne Slot

In a perfect world, Slot would have taken over at Liverpool with a full summer to work with his key players. As it is, only a handful of the first-team will report back on Slot’s allotted return date in early July.

Until then, it remains to be seen exactly how much contact the Dutch coach has with his new players. At least some would perhaps be expected.

Until now though, Andy Robertson has claimed that Slot has not been in contact with him – and likely his teammates, too. Speaking to Sky Sports, the left-back said that the new boss is leaving the group to focus on their aspirations this summer.

“I haven’t spoken to him (Slot) yet,” admitted the 30-year-old. “I think he’s leaving us to focus on the Euros and I think he’s done that for all the players.”

Touching on his expectations of the new head coach, Robertson said he was looking forward to getting stuck in back at Anfield.

“It’s an exciting new challenge,” said the Scotland captain. “Obviously the old era was pretty special and I’ve got a lot to be thankful for for that manager but obviously excited now by the new manager coming in – new ideas, new voice – and I’m really excited for what can come with that.

“I’ve got no doubts we can keep that momentum going,” Robertson added. “From all the reports we’ve had, the manager’s very good and I can’t wait to see that up close.”

When will Arne Slot start fully at Liverpool?

If you’d ask Slot himself, he’d surely prefer to have joined Liverpool with plenty of time to work with his players.

There may be a lot of new – or at least different – ideas to take onboard from he and his coaching staff.

It isn’t ideal that many of his key men – Robertson included – will be late back following excursions with their country.

Nevertheless, that’s the way things have fallen. It’s now up to Slot to work around it in the best way he possibly can.

It will be interesting to see when the 45-year-old finally gets up and running at the training ground. For now though, we’d expect that we may not see much of Slot until July.

From there, bits of the team will slowly start to drift back and that’s when those important conversations will begin to take place.
