Fresh Start Produce Sales Inc. is recalling whole cucumbers shipped to 14 states, including New Jersey, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The affected cucumbers, potentially contaminated with salmonella, were sent to the following states between May 7-21, 2024:
- Alabama
- Florida
- Georgia
- Illinois
- Maryland
- North Carolina
- New Jersey
- New York
- Ohio
- Pennsylvania
- South Carolina
- Tennessee
- Virginia
- West Virginia
The company initiated the recall after the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture found that one sampling of the product tested positive for salmonella.
The FDA is currently investigating to see if the cucumbers are linked to an ongoing salmonella outbreak.
Consumers are being advised to check with their local grocery store to see if the affected cucumbers were sold where they shop. Although according to the FDA, its highly unlikely the cucumbers made it past wholesale distributors.
The agency also urges anyone who has the cucumbers not to eat them but to destroy and throw them out or return them to their place of purchase for a full refund.
