Report: Everton keen to take another look at 'special' out-of-contract player over pre-season

The future of Everton midfielder Dele Alli could yet take another twist this summer as the club prepare to ramp up their pre-season efforts.

Summer exits could be on the agenda at Goodison Park for Everton this summer if they are to avoid any further points deductions next season.

One player who is set to depart the club this summer is Dele Alli who has had his struggles off the pitch over the last 12 months.

The Toffees were not made to pay Tottenham Hotspur the £10m buy clause this summer with Sean Dyche now playing the Englishman due to his injury issues.

And this season saw his brief stint at Everton come to an end with the Toffees failing to renew his contract which is set to expire at the end of the month.

What is the latest with Dele Alli at Everton?

Dele has now only played 13 times for Everton since he landed from north London with injuries and a loan spell away limiting his game time.

The Englishman spent the entirety of last season away from Merseyside with Besiktas where he also endured his struggles.

But his off-field issues have now been made public and the midfielder has revealed his plans to get his career back on track.

And that could well take place at Goodison after a fresh report has now revealed about the plans on Merseyside.

According to The Athletic, the Toffees are keen to take another look at Dele over pre-season as he edges closer to his return from injury.

If Everton are to hand Dele a new deal, that would mean the Toffees would need to provide Tottenham with lump sum.

As Dele continues to undergo his rehabilitation at the club, it is claimed the two clubs have spoken about a resolution over the figures involved with Dele, but no answer has been found.

Dele Alli would have a lot to prove this summer

Considering what the midfielder has been through, it is good to see Everton are doing what they can to offer him the support he needs.

However, seeing him return to Premier League football after so long out of the game would require a huge turnaround.

It has now been nearly two years since Dele last featured in the English top flight and he has not played a game since last February with Besiktad.

Whether Everton could offer him the football he needs to get back up and running following a year on the sidelines feels like a huge question which has to be asked.

But after all, this is a player who was hailed as “very special” by former Barcelona man Xavi during the midfielder’s time with Tottenham.
