Latvia will support any decision of Ukraine on how the war should continue, where it will end, and under what conditions, according to the Ambassador of Latvia to Ukraine Ilgvars Klava.
"We will support your decision, whatever decision you will make. We will definitely stand with you as long as it is your decision. So, obviously, in my understanding, any agreement will involve the issue of territories, of course," the Ambassador said.
The ambassador added that Riga supports Ukraine in restoring its territorial integrity. At the same time, the conditions for achieving a ceasefire and peace agreement will depend on the Ukrainian leadership.
However, Latvia does not want to see a decision pressed upon Ukraine, which Ukraine doesn't agree with. According to him, Ukraine should not be forced into an unfair peace agreement, because if it is pressed into a corner, the solution will not be stable and will only mean a pause before the next war.
"Basically, we talk about the principle. But theoretically, you cannot discount anything. There are plenty of possibilities for how war situations can be handled but it's your decision," Ilgvars Klava said.
Negotiations with Russia
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has supported the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) to hold no dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin. At the same time, if Russia wants to return to negotiations, it must:
- completely withdraw its troops from the territory of Ukraine;
- change the political elite;
- recognize the commission of war crimes;
- extradite the organizers of the war.
Ukraine is currently working on organizing a peace summit to be held soon in Switzerland. The agenda will include the Ukrainian peace formula, which should bring the end of the war closer on fair terms. RBC-Ukraine reported which countries refused to participate in the meeting.
