Conor Gallagher sends message over Chelsea future after Enzo Maresca appointment

By Tom Gott

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has admitted he is looking forward to working under new manager Enzo Maresca as uncertainty surrounding his future continues to swirl.

Gallagher is entering the final 12 months of his contract at Stamford Bridge and has been made available for transfer by those in charge, despite his emergence as one of the team's most important players last season under former boss Mauricio Pochettino.

With Maresca now in charge, Gallagher admitted his desire to get to work and steer Chelsea further up the table under the new manager, suggesting he is not looking for a move away from the club this summer.

"I've heard really good things and I've seen really good things as well," he told Sky Sports when asked about Maresca. "Myself and everyone at Chelsea are really happy and excited to work with him.

"We want to get Chelsea back to where they belong, so hopefully, with the new manager, we can start to progress and get to where we belong."

According to The Athletic, there has been no progress in talks over a contract extension for Gallagher, who remains up for sale as his status as an academy graduate means any money raised from his departure would count as pure profit.

Chelsea will ask Maresca for his opinions on the squad and he may be given the chance to voice his feelings towards Gallagher, although whether the sporting directors leading recruitment, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, will deviate from their current plan remains to be seen.

Any major decisions, including both sales and new contracts, will require approval from the ownership group.

Gallagher is not the only academy graduate up for sale. Trevoh Chalobah and Armando Broja will both be available in the hope of raising over £50m, while Ian Maatsen's £35m release clause is now active after his successful loan with Borussia Dortmund came to a close.
