Florida Sen. Marco Rubio continues to slam President Joe Biden for his open-border policies — this time after two New York City police officers were shot by an illegal immigrant housed in a hotel at taxpayers’ expense.

“It’s never a good idea to allow 9 or 10 million people to come into your country illegally. Let’s say 95% of the people are not here to commit crimes or whatever. That still leaves 5%, and 9 million is a lot of people,” the Florida Republican told Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Monday.

In the New York case, according to RVMNews.com, Bernardo Raul Castro Matta, a 19-year-old illegal immigrant from Venezuela, was identified as the suspect who shot two NYPD cops early Monday. The officers survived and were soon released from the hospital.

Castro Matta was linked to multiple scooter-related robberies in Queens. He had entered the U.S. in Eagle Pass, Texas, and was housed at a migrant shelter in a former Courtyard Marriott hotel. He shot at the cops during a foot chase.

Rubio noted that Venezuelans in America had been telling him about the increasing criminal element arriving in the U.S. and Biden doing nothing to stop it.

“They were criminals in Venezuela, and they’re criminals here now. This idea that they’re being vetted at the border is a joke,” Rubio said.

Rubio added that it’s only “common sense” to believe that potential terrorists from around the globe are slipping through the same cracks that Biden has created in the immigration system and are being exploited by criminals from Central and South America.

“It’s an extremely dangerous situation that Biden, [Vice President] Kamala Harris and this administration have allowed to happen,” said Rubio.

“Joe Biden was elected on the promise of making it easier to come illegally and easier to stay if you do, and the result is we’ve seen close to 10 million people now cross the border of the United States illegally in just three years,” Rubio added.

“They knew what they were doing. This is by design.”
