'I used' - Kobbie Mainoo has learned the 'most' from two important Man Utd stars, he's 'tried to emulate' what they do best

Kobbie Mainoo has been learning ‘the most’ from two Manchester United stars in the first team after enjoying his remarkable breakout season at Old Trafford.

The 19-year-old Manchester United midfielder missed the opening of the 2023-24 season due to an injury he picked up in the pre-season tour last summer.

However, Kobbie Mainoo bounced back from his injury setback and made his presence felt in his first Premier League start for United last November.

The United and England star earned rave reviews for his performance in the 3-0 Premier League win over Everton at Goodison Park in 2023.

Following his return from injury, Mainoo went on to enjoy a remarkable campaign at Old Trafford and firmly established himself in the United first team.

The Stockport-born player started all 24 of his Premier League matches last season and Mainoo scored three times and picked up a single assist for United.

Mainoo became a key midfield figure for manager Erik ten Hag, with the United star also lifting major silverware last season after scoring the winner in the FA Cup final.

The United midfielder’s stunning campaign with the Red Devils even earned him his call-up to the England national team during the March international break.

Mainoo learns from two Man Utd stars

Kobbie Mainoo is tipped to build on his success this summer when he represents England at Euro 2024 in Germany.

The Manchester United star featured under England boss Gareth Southgate during the 1-0 defeat to Brazil at Wembley and the 2-2 draw against Belgium at Wembley.

Speaking to Dazed magazine, Mainoo opened up about his season with Manchester United and how he developed after his emergence in the first team.

According to Dazed, the Three Lions star has been ‘learning the most’ from United captain Bruno Fernandes and midfielder Casemiro.

Speaking on Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, Mainoo said: “Last season when I was just training with the first team and I wasn’t playing with them, I used to think, ’How are they so quick to everything, how did they see that pass?’

“So I just watched them to see what they were doing, where they were looking and what moves they were making, and tried to emulate it and put it into my game as well.”

Mainoo speaks out on ‘Class of ‘92’

Mainoo, who came through the United youth academy, has admitted that he is not fazed by the criticism that the famed ‘Class of ‘92’ might make.

Paul Scholes, a key member of the Class of ‘92,’ initially criticised Alejandro Garnacho and Mainoo for wearing hoodies to training on social media in April.

The United legend, who later deleted his post from Instagram Stories, has spoken highly of Mainoo in his breakout season at Old Trafford.

When asked if the Class of ’92’s words still impact them, Mainoo said: “Definitely, because they won a lot and they’re such a big group of players from the same year.

“Coming through the academy, breaking in is always a big thing. That’s what everyone wants to do so I want to carry that on.”
