'Regular order!' Dem shuts down Jim Jordan as he rants at Merrick Garland

House Judiciary Committee/screen grab

A Democratic lawmaker cut off Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) mid-rant with a simple parliamentary maneuver.

During a Tuesday hearing with Attorney General Merrick Garland, Rep. Ben Cline (R-VA) gave his remaining time to Jordan, the Judiciary Committee's chair.

Jordan accused Garland of retaliating against three whistleblowers who had spoken to the committee.

"Three people have come and talked to this committee as whistleblowers, have had their security clearance taken!" Jordan exclaimed.

Garland noted that the inspector general had not found any retaliation against whistleblowers.

"I'm sorry, the management memo that you're talking about does not conclude there was any retaliation against anybody," Garland said.

"No, he's putting on notice that he's investigating!" Jordan bellowed.

But apparently Jordan had gone over his time — and one Democratic member had heard enough.

"Mr. Chairman, regular order!" she said.

Jordan relented and immediately ceded the floor to Rep. Lou Correa (D-CA).

"Do you want additional time to answer the chairman's questions or comments?" Correa asked Garland.

"The memorandum that the inspector general issued does not say, he concluded, that anybody retaliated against anybody," the attorney general replied.
