Joan Laporta now says two Barcelona loanees will stay at the club because of Hansi Flick

The future of several Barcelona stars is unclear as the club contends with a poor financial situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

New manager Hansi Flick has a tough job on his hands as he aims to make Barcelona challenge for major trophies again after a disappointing season saw Xavi dismissed from his role.

Several players could be on the chopping block this summer as Flick wields the axe over his squad, but he will be facing budget restrictions when it comes to signing new players.

Two loan stars this season, Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix, may return to Manchester City and Atletico Madrid, but Barcelona president Joan Laporta has now claimed that the club want to keep the Portuguese pair.

Barcelona want to keep Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo

Speaking in a press conference, Laporta claimed that despite the difficult financial situation, Barcelona want to keep Joao Felix and Cancelo at the request of Flick.

“We do not need to sell one top player, with the current financial situation it’s not needed,” he stated of the finances.

“We want both João Félix and João Cancelo to stay, Deco’s working on it”. “João Félix’s quality is something excellent, I’m happy with his season.

“Hansi Flick already wanted João Félix at Bayern.”

If further loan deals can be done, then keeping players with the quality and experience that Cancelo and Felix brings could be beneficial for Flick.

Cancelo did have a spell at Bayern Munich, but this was after Flick had already departed. However, his ability to play on both sides could be crucial, especially given Alejandro Balde’s injury.

Felix had an inconsistent season, as whilst he did showcase his quality at times, he managed just seven goals in 30 La Liga games.

Unless a deal becomes straightforward, Barcelona may be better off focusing on a more natural winger to play out wide, to complement Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski, rather than trying to shoehorn Felix in, but if Flick is keen on keeping him, it must be the case that he is certain of getting the best level out of him.
