Andrew Carr arrives in Lexington: “Can’t wait to make a lot of shots”

Andrew Carr is among Mark Pope’s most prized additions of his first offseason in Lexington, a player the new head coach had circled as a top priority the second he arrived. Coming from Wake Forest, he was the plug-and-play stretch four Kentucky needed, one Pope went to extensive lengths to secure — he drove down to Bowling Green to pick him and his family up in the middle of the night for his visit after flight complications rerouted them to Nashville.

The extra effort paid off and he got his guy, one he believes was born to wear blue and white.

“Andrew Carr is born to play for me,” Pope said of the 6-10 transfer. “The first time we talked on the phone, we just — it’s almost like we live in a shared experience. I feel like I really know him and I feel like he really knows me. His game fits exactly how this game is being pushed, the edges of this game. You’re always looking for the edges of the game where the game is evolving and he fits exactly what we’re trying to do in terms of his experience, in terms of his skillset, in terms of his mentality.”

Now, that prized addition has officially arrived, moving into his dorm on campus this week for his fifth and final season of eligibility.

“What’s up Big Blue Nation? Super hyped to be here in Lexington,” Carr said upon his arrival. “This is an awesome city, getting used to the country has been a really great experience. Super excited to be here. Can’t wait to make a lot of shots here and show you guys what we’ve been working on at Rupp. Ready to get to it.”

Carr, a 6-10, 230-pound forward, averaged 13.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks in 32.5 minutes per outing for the Demon Deacons. He started all 35 games played while shooting 52.6 percent overall, 37.1 percent from deep on 2.8 attempts per contest and 78.1 percent from the line.

He spent his first two college seasons at Delaware before transferring to Wake Forest for the last two with one year of eligibility remaining at Kentucky. That time starts now, officially moved in and ready to go at the Wildcat Lodge alongside Kerr Kriisa and Ansley Almonor.
