Miami Athletics Director Dan Radakovich has been around many excellent quarterbacks dating back to his time at Clemson. He believes Washington State transfer Cam Ward has a chance to be the next one.

Radakovich recently spoke with Kelly Gramlich and Eric Mac Lain about Cam Ward and why he believes the senior is a special player, both on and off the field.

“I had the chance this weekend to meet Cam’s first high school coach at a summit that I was at this weekend, and he just talked glowingly about Cam and how he attacks the game and how he attacks the intricacies of the game,” Radakovich said. “He puts the ball where it needs to be. He tries not to put it into harm’s way.”

Radakovich has not only been impressed by the play of Cam Ward since he arrived at Miami but also his leadership qualities. It reminds him of what he saw from former Clemson star quarterbacks, including Trevor Lawrence.

“That’s the other thing that Tajh Boyd and then Deshaun [Watson] and then Trevor [Lawrence] and Kelly [Bryant] even to a degree [did], they were all spokespeople,” Radakovich said. “And the ability to get the thing done correctly and make it work.”

The hope around Miami is that Cam Ward will be able to elevate the Miami program and the Hurricanes will take a big step forward in Year 3 under Mario Cristobal. Radakovich is not only excited about Ward but also the rest of the Hurricanes roster.

“I think that the cast around him that Miami’s going to have, and how we play, we may not have to ask him to throw the ball 60 times, which is a really great thing for any quarterback,” Radakovich said.

“Our tight end play’s going to be good, we have some outstanding receivers. So I really think it’s going to be a positive thing for him and he can become that spokesman.”

Dan Radakovich explains his confidence in Mario Cristobal, Miami entering 2024 season

Mario Cristobal has gotten off to a bit of a slow start as the head coach at Miami. The former Hurricanes offensive lineman is 12-13 in his first two seasons, after previously having a successful stint at Oregon.

Miami Athletics Director Dan Radakovich believes 2024 will be the year Cristobal turns things around. Radakovich recently spoke with Kelly Gramlich and Eric Mac Lain about why he’s confident in Mario Cristobal and Miami entering the 2024 season.

“The fundamentals of the people that we have in the positions right now of real influence, I think, are really good,” Radakovich said of Miami football. “Our offensive line, we have three of the five guys coming back and another one who played a lot. So for all intents and purposes, four of the five [are back], and the center is a two-year starter from a Big Ten school. OK, so we feel really good there.

“Defensive line, a number of really positive folks coming in. The quarterback, the linebacker, the safety. You know that thing about being strong up the middle, I think there’s some real truth to that.”
