Sour splash of lemon juice can be used for much more than simply making a tasty drink or adding a little acid to your cooking. Lemons are plentiful and inexpensive so you can substitute them for more expensive cleaners around the home and save a bundle at the supermarket!
Use lemons for:
Polishing
Lemons are great for cleaning and polishing aluminum, chrome, stainless steel, and copper pots, pans and hardware. Simply cut a lemon in half and rub over the inside and outside of the item.
Disinfecting
Mix 1/2 cup of lemon juice with 1/4 cup of dishwashing liquid, 1/4 cup of water and 1 cup of white vinegar in a reusable spray bottle and shake. This natural cleaner is antibacterial and antiseptic and can take on any dirty stove or countertop.
Stain Remover
Those marble countertops and surfaces around the home are porous and can stain if not cleaned immediately. Cut a lemon in half, dip it in salt and briskly rub away stains, then rinse.
Microwave Cleaner
Fill a microwavable glass container with 1/4 cup lemon juice and two cups of water, boil in the microwave until it fills with steam and let sit for five minutes before wiping with paper towels or a soft cloth.
Tupperware Cleaner
Simply squeeze some lemon juice into a container and add a pinch of baking soda. Work it around the surface of the plastic or rubber, then rinse. If the stain is severe, let the juice sit in the food containers overnight.
Garbage Disposal and Drain:
A lemon rind with help sharpen and freshen the disposal, leaving your kitchen smelling nice and clean. For a clogged drain, combine baking soda and lemon juice. The foaming action will clear minor clogs in just a few minutes.
