£60m Premier League striker responds to speculation surrounding double-your-money Manchester United transfer

Manchester United will be in the market for a number of signings this summer but a new striker will be a top priority.

Two players have said goodbye to Manchester United as Ineos prepare for their first summer transfer window at Old Trafford.

Defender Raphael Varane will be leaving United with his contract coming to an end, three years after signing from Real Madrid.

The World Cup winner will certainly need to be replaced this summer and the same goes for compatriot Anthony Martial.

Last seen in a United shirt back in December, Martial is on his way out of Old Trafford as his contract heads towards its final few weeks.

Martial wasn’t exactly a huge factor in the United squad this season and, in truth, the last few years have been difficult for him.

United still need to find a replacement though with a new striker a top priority in order to offer support to Rasmus Hojlund moving forward.

Matheus Cunha on Manchester United

A number of names have already been linked with moves to United and one of them is already playing in the Premier League.

Reports over the weekend suggested that Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha is a name on United’s wish list.

The Brazilian forward is allegedly valued at around £60million and United would be willing to double his wages to tempt him to Old Trafford.

That double-your-money deal would see Cunha go from around £60,000-a-week up to £120,000-a-week after a strong season.

Cunha hit 12 goals and seven assists in 32 Premier League appearances, producing an impressive campaign for Wolves.

United may well throw in an offer for Cunha but the former RB Leipzig talent has played down the speculation.

Speaking to Globo Esporte back in Brazil, Cunha was asked about the speculation over a move to United whilst watching Botafogo-PB.

Cunha noted that he had seen the rumours but is ‘very happy’ at Wolves and fully focused on bringing success to Molineux.

Cunha is hoping to stay on the same path which brought him 12 Premier League goals this past season and doesn’t seem to be pushing for a move to United – at least publicly, anyway.

“Whenever I can, I come along. I always want to show that (the affection) is reciprocated. Then we see that doing the rounds (Manchester United). But I’m very happy at Wolves.”

“My focus is on resting and making the most of my time with my family. I’m very happy at Wolves. The focus now is on having better seasons and helping the club. God willing, I’ll continue on this path,” he added.

Cunha versatility very appealing

United would seemingly have to come up with a big offer to tempt Wolves into selling Cunha, but the interest does make some sense.

The 25-year-old has really found his feet in English football and his versatility is very enticing for United.

Cunha is predominantly a striker but has also played as a number 10 for Wolves and can also play on the left flank if needed.

That kind of versatility could be vital for United in terms of having one player being able to cover for Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes in one fell swoop.

Cunha may not be an elite-level goalscorer, at least at this stage in his development, but his ability to offer quality in a number of roles could really suit United’s squad.

Tempting Cunha away from Molineux may not be easy but the interest adds up with United looking to strengthen a number of positions over the course of the summer.
