Fresh off receiving a $25,000 fine from NASCAR for a post-race incident following the weekend at Portland, driver Kyle Weatherman has reached out on social media to apologize for the incident.
Weatherman was fined because he made contact with another vehicle on pit road after the race.
“Hey everybody, just wanted to get on here and address the fine that I just received from NASCAR,” Weatherman said in a video posted on Twitter. “A driver and I got into it on pit road and I’m not OK with my actions and how I handled it. And for that I’m truly sorry and honestly embarrassed.”
The 26-year-old Xfinity Series driver went on to explain that his emotions have been running high due to some recent life events involving family.
Weatherman recently lost his mother-in-law, Barbara Ann Brooks, to a battle with cancer.
“I’ve had a lot go on the past few weeks with family wise and going through a grieving process just losing Barbara Ann, my mother in law,” Kyle Weatherman said. “It’s been tough. I feel like, truly feel like I let some of my emotions from that translate over to post-race stuff that happened on-track, then post-race. For that I’m truly sorry, honestly. So just wanted to get on here, say sorry to all the fans, everybody at NASCAR, everybody that was around the scene on pit road and my sponsors.”
Weatherman, whose best finish this season was an eighth-place appearance at Dover Motor Speedway, went on to promise that he’d correct his behavior in the future.
“I’m going to be better,” Kyle Weatherman said. “I’m going to be better and I’m sorry. I will see you guys in Sonoma.”
Weatherman currently sits in 22nd place in the Xfinity Series standings, having accumulated 188 points so far this season. Weatherman has recorded just one top-10 finish, while he has four DNFs so far this season. He has yet to lead a lap and has not produced any stage wins.
