'Disorganised': Nation's media say £14.5m Leeds man 'got better and better' last night for his country

Countries are preparing for Euro 2024 and on Tuesday night, one Leeds United player earned praise from his nation’s media ahead of this summer’s tournament in Germany.

A handful of Leeds players will be in action at this summer’s competition. Robin Koch officially remains a Leeds player until his deal runs out on June 30, and he is in Germany’s squad under Julian Nagelsmann.

Liam Cooper is in Scotland’s squad despite picking up a knock in his side’s friendly win over Gibraltar this week. The club’s Welsh stars fell at the final hurdle, after beating Glen Kamara’s Finland in the semi-finals.

But the player currently on Leeds books that is likely to have the most-prominent role at Euro 2024 is that of Max Wober. The left footer spent last season on loan at Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach.

Wober was one of eight players along with Koch to leave Elland Road using Victor Orta’s loan relegation clause and explained at the time he had chosen to do so to enhance his chances of starting at Euro 2024.

Nation’s media deliver verdict on Leeds star Max Wober last night

Wober, 26, played in central defence and lasted an hour before Ralf Rangnick took him off as Austria beat Serbia 2-1. A solid display that gives Austria confidence going into a tough opening game against France.

Austrian outlet Salzburger Nachrichten gave their verdict on Wober’s performance. With one being the best and five the worst, Wober was given between two and three for a display that started “disorganised”.

“The defence seemed a bit disorganized from time to time. Despite this they didn’t have many compelling chances. Thanks to the Gladbach man, who got better and better. Good passes in the build-up play.”

Where does Wober’s future lie ahead of intriguing summer

Gladbach are keen on turning Wober’s loan deal into a permanent one, but The 49ers want a huge £14.5m for his signature. A deal that would see Leeds make a £3.5m profit on the Austria defender.

Wober has commented on his future, too. He has informed his agent that he does not want to hear anything until after Austria’s participation in the competition, which is being held in his loan club’s nation.

Leeds will sell Wober if his asking price is reduced and is met in the middle by Gladbach. Perhaps, a fee like the one Leeds paid Salzburg about 18 months ago is likely to be enough to do the trick.
