19-goal Rangers target’s club are now making peace with his imminent exit this summer - report

Rangers links to Rapid Bucharest striker Albion Rrahmani might’ve gone a little cold in recent weeks.

The Gers are said to be interested in the 19-goal Kosovan this summer after an explosive first season in the Romanian top flight.

Rangers aren’t the only ones said to be tailing Albion Rrahmani either, with links to the likes of Benfica, Napoli and even Aston Villa in the Premier League.

But despite the heavy reported interest in the 23-year-old, the appointment of Neil Lennon at Rapid Bucharest initially silenced any transfer talk.

Now, the ex-Celtic manager looks set to be disappointed in his hopes of keeping Rrahmani around as the Romanians brace for the striker’s summer exit.

It comes after the Romanian side appeared to sign a replacement for the forward this week.

Rapid preparing for life without Rrahmani

According to Romanian outlet Orange Sport, Rapid Bucharest are ‘preparing to part’ with Albion Rrahmani this summer.

Whilst the report doesn’t name where the striker’s next destination is going to be – instead citing interest from Rangers, the aforementioned names and the Czech Republic – the news comes against the backdrop of public Neil Lennon pleas to keep the striker.

After his appointment at the club, Old Firm rival Lennon claimed that given Albion Rrahmani’s contribution to Rapid last season, he wanted the striker to stick around.

“I don’t want Rahmani to go anywhere,” Lennon told Sport Romania. “He is a very good player. Goalscorers are very important players in a team. He had a fantastic season.

“It’s a discussion I hope will take place but I’m not in control at the moment.”

It’s the first time since those comments that reports in Romania have claimed that Albion Rrahmani is set to leave the club and now we expect those links to Rangers to intensify.

Rangers striker transfer hunt continues

Rangers are believed to be on the hunt for increased firepower this summer.

Injuries devastated the Rangers forward line last season with Cyriel Dessers forced to shoulder the responsibility for much of the campaign.

With Brazilian striker Danilo working his way back to fitness, Rangers have also been linked with a permanent move for Abdallah Sima.

But with Fabio Silva returning to Wolves and Kemar Roofe being released at the end of his contract, it’s an area of the park which requires surgery.

Albion Rrahmani certainly looks a positive option with the interest from some of Europe’s biggest leagues certainly a testament to his progress in Romania.

But having only just joined Rapid from Kosovan outfit Ballkani last summer, perhaps a move to Scotland and Rangers can help the forward take the next step in his career.

Rangers fans will be watching how this one progreses over the next few weeks with the notion of getting one over on Neil Lennon just an added bonus.
