The one Benjamin Sesko moment that convinced Arteta he had found Arsenal's next striker

Arsenal have now decided that RB Leipzig attacker Benjamin Sesko is their ideal striker target in the summer transfer window, and a deal could progress soon.

The 21-year-old has been outstanding since his arrival in Germany, scoring 14 times in 17 Bundesliga starts, and is following a similar path to Erling Haaland at his age.

Mikel Arteta wants to add a striker to his squad capable of scoring when the team is faltering. Arsenal scored a lot overall with Kai Havertz upfront, but few alternatives meant that in goalless games against Bayern Munich and Aston Villa, the Gunners came unstuck.

Because of Havertz’s incredible form, Sesko can be eased into the side rather than having the pressure of being a starter immediately, but he has already shown that aside from his incredible speed, which ranks higher than any Arsenal attacker, he is capable of the magic that Arteta wants to add to his team.

Benjamin Sesko’s stunning strike against Sweden showed he has the X-factor for Arsenal attack

In September 2022, Sesko was playing in a Nations League tie for Slovenia away at Sweden. A loss would have relegated Slovenia from their Nations League group.

Sesko was just 19 at the time, but he stepped up for his country in the most remarkable way. Running onto a long ball which was directed at the corner of the box from then-Empoli star Peter Stojanovic, the Arsenal target unleashed a venomous volley that the greats would be proud of.

The ball sailed into the top corner at an unstoppable angle from his first-time hit, and Sesko’s teammates raced over to congratulate him on what was one of the best goals he ever scored.

Arsenal’s recruitment team and Arteta will be well aware of this strike as they push to complete a deal for Sesko before the European Championships begin, and they may look at it as an example of what the side is currently missing.

Arsenal rarely scored from outside the box last season, and the games in which they struggled to score saw a lack of an otherworldly shot of superstar quality.

This was the type of remarkable finish the likes of Thierry Henry or Alexis Sanchez could unexpectedly produce out of nowhere, and Sesko has shown that he has the ability, as well as the audacity, to take Arsenal’s attacking options up to a new level.
