Report: Wrexham interested in signing free agent after Phil Parkinson hinted January deal collapsed

Wrexham need new signings as Phil Parkinson prepares for life in League One and one January target remains on the radar this summer.

Back-to-back promotions have been simply incredible to witness and something that few fanbases are able to celebrate.

There is a cold reality to the back-to-back promotions though – and it’s that Wrexham need to considerably improve over the course of the next three months.

Wrexham were a National League side just over a year ago and that means big improvements are required in order to adjust to such a rapid rise.

A handful of players have already been let go at the end of their contracts with the likes of Ben Tozer, Aaron Hayden and Luke Young moved on.

Wrexham are now ready to bring in new signings to raise the level of Phil Parkinson’s squad and one familiar name is on the radar once again.

Wrexham interested in Jamie Lindsay

With the January transfer deadline closing in, Wrexham appeared to be pushing for a club-record transfer.

Reports suggested that Wrexham were moving in for Rotherham United midfielder Jamie Lindsay.

A deal would have eclipsed the £300,000 Wrexham paid for Ollie Palmer but there either wasn’t enough time or issues arose in the move.

Parkinson did note that Wrexham missed out on a late deal and the belief is that Lindsay was the player in question.

The door has now opened for Wrexham to strike a deal as Lindsay’s contract at Rotherham expires on June 30th.

Lindsay has said goodbye to the Millers, confirming that he will not be signing a new deal.

So, if Wrexham were ready and willing to strike a club-record deal for Lindsay in January, surely a free transfer now looks very appealing.

Sure enough, The Athletic now claim that Wrexham ‘have an eye’ on Lindsay with a potential deal in mind.

The Scot is bound to have a number of suitors but with Wrexham showing such a strong interest in January, a move to the STōK Cae Ras would make real sense this summer.

Lindsay record in League One

Wrexham’s targets all appear to have decent experience in League One.

Released Wigan Athletic trio Tom Pearce, Stephen Humphrys and Josh Magennis all know their way around League One.

The same goes for defender Marvin Ekpiteta, who has been released by Blackpool.

Lindsay fits a similar mould too, with the 28-year-old playing 50 times for Rotherham in League One.

The former Celtic talent hit two goals and five assists at League One level, making an impact going forward from midfield.

Lindsay has already played 92 times in the Championship, notching six goals and two assists in the process.

A proven player at League One and even Championship level, Lindsay suits what Wrexham are looking for right now and a free transfer deal could be perfect.
