Real Madrid make 'new contact' with Bayern Munich star for summer transfer

By Jude Summerfield

Real Madrid have made 'new contact' with Alphonso Davies this week as they try to sign the Canadian left-back this summer, it has been claimed.

The flying defender's contract at the Allianz Arena expires at the end of next season and Los Blancos have long been tipped as his next destination.

Davies has an offer on the table from Bayern and is yet to make a decision given Madrid's interest. Fabrizio Romano claims the Champions League and La Liga winners aren't interested in paying Bayern's desired €50m transfer fee for the 23-year-old.

Madrid were previously reported to not be keen to pay any more than €35m, down from their previous best offer of €40m.

Should Davies decide his future lies away from Bavaria, Madrid will be in a strong negotiating position or could wait for a year before announcing his arrival as a free transfer.

However, Sky Germany add getting Davies to sign a new deal is a priority for incoming manager Vincent Kompany and they add that an agreement is more likely than it has been in recent weeks.

There is a fear that Davies and his entourage could be using Bayern to coerce improved contract terms out of Madrid, but the German giants are keen to get the extension done and avoid having to make an expensive new signing at left-back, with Milan's Theo Hernandez their preferred successor.

Bayern and Germany star was quizzed on his club teammate's future and admitted he would like to see him remain rather than move to the Bernabeu.

Musiala said: "Yes! He's a good friend of mine. It's always good to keep your friends around. But I haven't spoken to him for a few days and we never talk about contracts."

Ferland Mendy played most frequently at left-back for Madrid during the 2023/24 season with 23 La Liga appearances and featured in 11 Champions League games, including starting Saturday's final against Borussia Dortmund.
