Safemo’s solar-powered security system promises privacy first

Safemo, a relatively new player in the home security market, has launched a new solar-powered, privacy-focused security system. The Safemo P1 kit consists of a pair of battery-powered 4K cameras with detached solar panels, along with a central hub with expandable local storage for recording video feeds with no dependence on the cloud.

The Safemo Hub at the heart of the system leverages AI and video processing, with end-to-end encryption between the hub and the Safemo app on the user’s iOS device (Android support to come later) to ensure privacy. Safemo says this kind of local management not only improves the system’s responsiveness but also ensures that user data remains secure and private. The hub comes with 32GB of storage and can be expanded with a 4TB SSD that will be sold separately.

This news story is part of TechHive’s in-depth coverage of the best home security cameras.

Each of the cameras capture video with resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels and feature up to 60 feet of viewing range, 8x zoom, and color night vision, ensuring clear images even in low-light conditions. The cameras are built from weather-resistant materials for outdoor use.

The Safemo P1 uses artificial intelligence to detect and recognize people, vehicles, packages, and pets, which should reduce false alerts, allowing users to focus on the events they’re most concerned with. Additionally, tailored motion zones can customize which areas of the user’s property they want to monitor closely.

Safemo says its high-efficiency solar panels deliver 28-percent higher energy conversion than the competition, which allows the system to operate for up to three days with just two to three hours of direct sunlight daily, making it viable even in less sunny regions.

The Safemo P1 kit is available on Amazon, where’s it’s billed as a beta product, for $399.99, or you can preorder it direct from the manufacturer at $50 discount.
