Micah Parsons advocates for Cowboys to get the ‘Brink’s truck’ for CeeDee Lamb

As Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb continues his holdout for a contract extension, the star is receiving support from his teammates on both sides of the ball. On Tuesday, edge rusher Micah Parsons, who could also receive an extension this offseason, advocated for the league’s leader in receptions to receive a historic deal.

“CeeDee is about to hit the Brink’s truck,” Parsons said at mandatory minicamp. “He is about to get his. I can’t think of someone more deserving. I think CeeDee is the best receiver in the league if you ever want to argue the top three. In my eyes, seeing his mindset and how he comes in every day. I think he deserves every penny. So I’m going to be super excited for him for whatever his contract lays out, but it’s going to be a nice contract for sure.”

On Monday, the Minnesota Vikings made fifth-year receiver Justin Jefferson the highest paid receiver in the league. They signed him to a four-year extension for $140 million with $110 million guaranteed. It’s the new benchmark the Cowboys will likely either match or exceed. Parsons believes it should be the latter.

“If I’m his agent, CeeDee is getting about $36 [million per year],” Parsons said. “But, I’m not his agent. Numbers aside, I don’t know, obviously, what goes with the combative arguments on who vs. who and whatever it may be. … I think you could argue CeeDee is better [than Jefferson], however you want to put it. But CeeDee should be right there with him.”

Parsons: ‘I know how hard he’s training’

Skipping mandatory minicamp is costing Lamb up to $100,000, but Parsons believes its worth it. The Cowboys defender skipped out on the majority of the team’s offseason workout program and OTAs in favor of doing his own private workouts, so he fully understands where his teammate is coming from.

“You understand that business aspect. Why would CeeDee come over here and pull a hamstring or God forbid anything just happens and that ruins his equity in his body? That’s his engine,” Parsons said. “But CeeDee is out getting better. I got CeeDee on everything. I know how hard he is training. He’s super excited for this year. Just let the numbers handle numbers, and he’ll be back.”

Head coach Mike McCarthy insisted on Tuesday that though Lamb isn’t at the Star, he’s still very “engaged.” Minicamp could end on Wednesday or extend into Thursday, but either way, it doesn’t look like the Cowboys will have their No. 1 receiver back until they head to Oxnard – if then.
