'They live for lies': George Conway delivers scathing assessment of his former party

Attorney George Conway this week delivered a blunt assessment of the state of his one-time political party during an appearance on Molly Jong-Fast's "Fast Politics" podcast.

During the podcast, Jong-Fast asked Conway whether Republicans really believe that Trump is a victim of corrupt law enforcement institutions or whether they are just cynically saying what their voters want to hear.

Conway said that while there are some true believers within the ranks of GOP lawmakers, most of them are simply lying for political purposes.

"A lot of them are just going to say what they're told to say," Conway said. "They are very good at just denial. This is what they have become. They deny reality, they lie, they live for these lies, and they tell more of them! And when their lies are shown to be lies, they come up with new ones. And the lie that they're going to tell is, 'This [Trump felony conviction] is good.' Well if it's good, why are you so unhappy? They don't have any answer to that."

Jong-Fast then asked Conway about his confrontation with Republican operative Scott Jennings on CNN, in which he earned a rebuke by accusing Jennings of lying on live television.

He told Jong-Fast that Jennings is essentially playing a game where he pretends not to be a diehard Trump supporter but who then spits out "the exact same talking points" used by the former president and his allies.

"That tells you something about how they feel about their standard bearer," he said. "They can't defend him. So they just say, 'I'm not really a big Trump supporter but...' and then they say something on the attack, like, 'Oh but Biden is this, but Kalama Harris is this...' Dude, the guy's a convicted criminal!"
