Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson set a new market at the position on Monday after becoming the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Inking a four-year, $140 million contract extension that includes $110 million guaranteed.
Amon-Ra St. Brown also recently signed a four-year, $120 million extension with the Detroit Lions, and at Miami Dolphins OTA, their star wide receiver Tyreek Hill reacted to the recent new deals at his position that will likely eventually result in a handsome payday for the speedster.
“Oh it’s a great day in the Hill household man. Everybody waking up happy, wife waking up happy, my oldest son waking up happy, so it’s a great day,” Hill said. “But at the same time for me though, it’s a lot of pressure because at the same time, like I said, I want to be able to help the team as much as I can. And obviously, we already know being greedy ain’t gonna help the team. So whatever happens, happens man.”
Multiple signs point at Hill being the next wide receiver in line to sign a new deal. Finding himself outside of the top five highest-paid wideouts in the NFL after inking a four-year, $120 million deal in 2022 that at the time made him the highest-paid receiver in the league. A topic that his agent Drew Rosenhaus even discussed recently following Jefferson’s extension.
“About the contract situation, you know what, I’m gonna let my agent do his job,” Hill said. “That’s his job man, his job is to be great at that and my job is obviously to come out here and continue to do whatever I can to help this team win. Whether that’s a restructure, whatever the case may be, you feel me? But we want to make sure it benefits both sides and I want to be able to help the team as much as I can and that’s as much as I can say about it.”
Hill has undoubtedly earned the right to be one of the highest-paid wideouts in the league. Leading the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards last season, tying for second in the league with 13 touchdown catches, and ranking second with 119 receptions.
But unlike other premier players at his position in the past, Hill will not let contract talks get in the way or be a distraction of the task at hand. As he works toward continuing to be one of the most dangerous weapons in the league and a crucial part of Miami’s offensive success.
“Nah it’s not, because I know when I’m at work it’s time to go to work and whenever it’s time to talk contract with my agent or whatever the case may be it’s time to talk contract. So wherever my feet are at, that’s where my head is at,” Hill explained. “Same thing when I go home with my family, when I go home with my family I don’t think about football. I think about what I’m gonna be cooking next, so same thing.”
