Why 'perfect' manager is the only appointment who could help Dewsbury-Hall stay at Leicester City - opinion

The manager Leicester City appoint to replace Enzo Maresca could have a huge bearing on whether the club can keep Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall this summer.

Despite promotion to the Premier League, Leicester may have to sell to comply with Premier League spending rules and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is likely their most valuable asset.

It would be a real shame to have to sell their academy graduate, especially as he was so vital to their promotion with 12 goals and 14 assists in the league.

It is likely that if there is a way to keep the 25-year-old at the club then Leicester will do all they can to make that happen and one way that could do that is by appointing a manager with a track record of getting the best out of players.

Dewsbury-Hall flourished in the Championship under Maresca and his replacement could hold the key to the midfielder’s future.

Reports suggest Manchester United may test Leicester’s resolve with a cut-price bid in the knowledge that the Foxes may need to sell.

The likes of Carlos Corberan and Mauricio Sarri have been linked with the vacant post, but former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper could be the ideal candidate.

Having been the England under-17 manager when they won the World Cup in 2017, Cooper has a track record of nurturing younger players and improving individuals.

The likes of Marc Guehi, Phil Foden and Conor Gallagher were all part of that squad and Cooper has continued his impressive development of young talents through his time at Swansea City and Forest.

Whilst Dewsbury-Hall is a player approaching his prime, it could still be the case that Cooper can elevate his game to new heights.

Dewsbury-Hall should look to example of Morgan Gibbs White under Cooper

Another player that was in the triumphant England under-17 World Cup winning squad was Morgan Gibbs-White.

Cooper signed the midfielder for Forest upon promotion to the Premier League in 2023 and he has been a revelation ever since scoring 11 goals and providing 18 assists since signing according to Transfermarkt.

The 24-year-old spoke glowingly of his then-manager in December 2023, with pressure starting to build prior to Cooper’s sacking later that month.

Gibbs-White spoke to talkSPORT about his relationship with the Welsh manager, saying: “He means the absolute world. What he’s done, not just the club, but for the city in general, I don’t think any manager apart from him could have done that. That is why we are so invested in him.

“We believe in him so much because we think he’s the perfect man for this job. Any team goes through bad spells in the season, but it’s just about how you react from that and how you bounce back.

Gibbs-White plays a similar role to Dewsbury-Hall in that they both love to drive forward and create in the final third.

Dewsbury-Hall can take Leicester on his shoulders in a similar way to Gibbs-White has done for Forest and fans of the club will be hoping Cooper could convince him to stay should he be appointed.
