Germany must be prepared for a war that could occur in 2029, involving a conflict with Russia, states German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius.

Possible war with Russia

It is noted that the minister wants to enhance the operational readiness of the Bundeswehr.

"We must be prepared for war by 2029," Pistorius stated in the context of the threat from Russia.

He added that Germany needs to ensure deterrence to prevent the worst-case scenario. Pistorius emphasized that finances, materials, and personnel are crucial for improving the state of the Bundeswehr.

New form of military service

"In an emergency, we need brave young women and men who can defend this country," Pistorius said.

Therefore, he believes that a new form of military service is needed, which cannot be entirely free of obligations.

The federal government suspended mandatory military service in 2011. He emphasized that the model being developed envisions not a complete but a partial return of general military conscription in Germany.

War between Russia and Germany

After the invasion of Ukraine, Western countries began to spend more actively on enhancing their defense capabilities, fearing an invasion of NATO countries by Russian forces.

Germany also started rearming, and in January, Bild reported that the Bundeswehr is preparing for a Russian hybrid attack on NATO's eastern flank.
