The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees will hold regularly scheduled meetings this week in Tuscaloosa, and on the agenda is the Crimson Tide’s men’s basketball program.

No, it isn’t news of an all-new arena, but it is news that has been hinted at for a few months.

Under the physical properties section of the agenda, the seventh construction item reads:

“Consideration of Resolution approving the preliminary project scope and budget; granting authorization to execute an Owner/Architect Agreement for the Coleman Coliseum Basketball Training & Player Development Facility Expansion and Renovation at UA (Stage I & Stage II)”

BamaOnLine reported in April that Alabama was expected to build a new off-site facility for the men’s basketball team, which, at the time, was likely to carry a $20 million price tag. This came after head coach Nate Oats reaffirmed his commitment to UA after the Final Four.

Alabama director of athletics Greg Byrne also mentioned a “day-to-day development space” in his statement released shortly after Oats. Now, that plan appears to be awaiting approval.

“We’re committed to supporting Nate Oats as he continues to lead Alabama men’s basketball in its pursuit of a national championship and encourage our fans to be a part of that by supporting Yea Alabama,” Byrne said in April. “I know I’ve said this before but want to reiterate how important this is with the changing landscape in college athletics.

“Nate and I talk regularly about the priorities of the program and NIL is at the forefront, as is day-to-day development space for our team, which we are taking steps to address as we speak. We appreciate your support through Yea Alabama and look forward to celebrating more championships in the years to come.”

The UA System Board of Trustees will meet on Thursday, June 6, and again on Friday, June 7. Stay tuned to BamaOnLine for full details on the latest in Alabama basketball facilities.
