A total of eight University of Alabama programs scored a perfect 1,000 with 12 Crimson Tide teams earning program-record high numbers in the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR), which the NCAA announced this week. All 21 UA athletics teams continue to score well above the national cutoff standard figures that cover the four-year period extending from the 2019-20 through 2022-23 school years.

The Crimson Tide boasts 10 teams that led their respective sport in the SEC in APR numbers with 11 UA squads setting or tying all-time program-high marks for the four-year average. Altogether, it adds up to a program-best average APR score of 995.5 across the University’s 21 sports in 2022-23, surpassing the previous mark of 995.0 which was set a year ago. In fact, this year’s report marks the sixth consecutive year of improvement for Alabama’s overall average score.

Football’s mark of 997 was not only the best in the SEC but also set a program record for APR and was one of 11 Alabama squads to achieve the same feat (Gymnastics, Men’s and Women’s Golf, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Men’s Swimming, Softball, Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Track & Field and Volleyball).

In addition to football, other teams that led the league in APR include Baseball, Gymnastics, Men’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Golf, Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Softball, Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Track & Field and Volleyball.

In all, 16 of the 21 Crimson Tide programs earned a multi-year rate of 990 or better with 14 finishing among the top three teams in the conference for their respective sport.

The Academic Progress Rate measures the eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team. It also serves as a predictor of graduation success. The NCAA’s Division I Board of Directors set cut scores of 930 (out of 1,000) as a threshold for teams to meet or face possible immediate and historical sanctions.
