'Only if': Journalist says Man City could actually sell 'incredible' player for £67m this summer

It has been reported that Manchester City could sell one of their players for £67.1 million in the summer transfer window.

Manchester City will be demanding sizable fees for their players to ensure they can reinvest the same amount into their summer business — hoping to improve on what was yet another top-class season.

It seems like as brilliant an achievement as winning the Premier League is, after having won the treble, the expectation is for City to at least take home two out of four trophies. In fairness, Pep Guardiola’s men did not just win the league but also the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Man City could sell one player for £67 million this summer

The player in question is Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez, who was described as an “incredible player” by Stefan Ortega.

On Wednesday, it was claimed that it is “very likely” that the Argentine will leave City.

According to journalist Veronica Brunati, Manchester City are yet to receive any formal offers for Julian Alvarez and at the end of the season meeting, he did not demand to leave the club.

However, City could only decide to sell Alvarez in case he asked to depart the Etihad Stadium and the club received a €80 million (£67.1 million) offer for him.

Manchester City may have kept the door open for Julian Alvarez

In our view, while Manchester City do not seem like they intend to sell Julian Alvarez, they have seemingly kept the door open.

Like in Cole Palmer’s case last summer, the Sky Blues are happy to do deals if the player in question is considering an exit and the fee meets their requirements.

As brilliant a player as City’s number 19 is, his importance to the side is not to the degree of names like Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden to name a few.

With that in mind, one can understand why Manchester City have not considered the 24-year-old’s a non-negotiable situation; leaving the ball in his hands if he decides to leave to proceed with a potential sale.
