‘Quite loose’: Kevin De Bruyne shares the differences between Pep Guardiola and the Belgium manager

Kevin De Bruyne has shared some behind-the-scenes details on what Pep Guardiola is like compared to the Belgium manager.

After ending his ninth season with City and his eighth under Guardiola, the midfielder is now preparing for the upcoming European Championship in Germany with Belgium.

Leading Belgium for the upcoming summer tournament is Domenico Tedesco, who is unbeaten in his first 12 games in charge of the Red Devils, winning eight and drawing four.

Ahead of this next international tournament in Germany, De Bruyne has shared some insight into the relationship he has with his club and international managers and what the differences are between them in terms of how they train their players.

Speaking in a recent interview with Het Nieuwsblad, De Bruyne was asked if his relationship with Tedesco is similar to the one he has with Guardiola.

In response, the midfielder had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Everybody is different. Domenico Tedesco is very open in his communication. He talks a lot to the players and asks for opinions.

“The approach at the Red Devils is also somewhat stricter than at Manchester City. A bit more German-style. But this is also a young team.

“At City, Pep is not a trainer who talks a lot to his players. We have a group of five people there who set the lines. It’s even quite loose.”

Guardiola vs Tedesco

Having featured in 341 games under Guardiola for City and just two under Tedesco prior to Wednesday’s friendly match against Montenegro, it’s safe to say that De Buyne will be more aware of what his club manager is like to work with rather than his new international manager.

Also, in terms of being stricter than Guardiola, the fact that Tedesco is gearing up for his first international tournament as Belgium’s manager, it’s understandable why he’d be more intense in his structure than the City boss is after numerous years of success with the Blues.

Looking ahead to the upcoming Euros, it’ll be interesting to see how De Bruyne and Belgium get on and if Tedesco’s strict but communicative managerial approach helps get the Red Devils in with a chance of winning the tournament.
