Last night, a Russian oil depot in the Belgorod region was targeted by drones. This operation was planned by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (DIU), according to a source in the Defense Forces.
"The mission has been accomplished, and the measures will continue," the source said.
It is noteworthy that Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region, also reported on the kamikaze drone attack on the oil depot in the Stary Oskol urban district. According to him, one of the tanks caught fire as a result, but the blaze was allegedly extinguished, and "no one was injured."
"The fire was promptly extinguished by four firefighting units. The blast wave shattered the windows in the security building. No one was injured," Gladkov wrote.
Additionally, due to the drone attack last night, there was also a fire at the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in the Rostov region. Local authorities claim that the impact caused a fire, and according to local Telegram channels, several explosions were heard in the refinery area, resulting in a "pillar of fire." By morning, the fire had been extinguished.
Ukraine's attacks on Russian oil refineries
Since the beginning of 2024, Russian oil refineries in various regions have been regularly targeted by Ukrainian drones. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described these actions as a response to the occupiers' strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
Additionally, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), Vasyl Maliuk, stated that the drone attacks on oil refineries have reduced oil production and refining in the aggressor country by 12%.
Furthermore, Politico reported that these attacks have led to an extraordinary situation - the world's largest oil-producing nation has run out of gasoline, causing local fuel prices to skyrocket.
