'Got to look at that': Tony Adams suggests the Premier League should change one rule because of Man City now

Tony Adams has suggested that the Premier League must change one rule because of Manchester City.

It seems like virtually every pundit has had their say on Manchester City amid their 115 financial charges.

Gary Neville claimed that while he was always against the concept of FFP (Financial Fair Play) in the first place, if there are rules to be adhered to, he feels the English giants should, like every club.

Tony Adams makes Premier League rule suggestion due to Man City

When quizzed about their alleged financial breaches, Tony Adams instead questioned the multi-club ownership model at the City Football Group’s disposal that he feels benefits Manchester City.

Adams told Sky Sports: “I think you’ve got to be careful, I don’t want Man City to win it for the next 10 years and at the moment, they’re stockpiling, they’ve got a lot of players in their books in many different countries.”

Tony Adams believes Manchester City stockpiles talent due to the City Football Group owning clubs like Girona, New York City FC, Palermo and Lommel SK to name a few.

“I think the Premier League have got to look at, maybe the loan system to stop them stockpiling and maybe something to do with the development because the Premier League is not really a development league in this country.”

“It’s coming from the feeder leagues of Belgium, France and Spain and South America so the league’s maybe got to look at that and make sure Man City don’t keep rolling in around because we’ve spent £200 million here at the Arsenal just to get near them.”

Tony Adams also feels that if not for Arsenal taking the title race down to the wire last season, the Premier League would have been a “nonexistent league” due to how dominant Manchester City are.

“And you can’t keep doing that and the big clubs will always be the big clubs. The Premier League’s the best league in the world because it’s competitive and you want to maintain that and thank God we have Arsenal because if you didn’t have Arsenal this year, it’s a non-existent league.”

The multi-club ownership has not benefited Man City

In our view, the question that must be posed to Tony Adams is where Manchester City have stockpiled talent from their sister clubs.

Savio, who was on loan from Troyes to Girona could be the first example of this very model aiding City — with the Brazilian claimed to be joining Guardiola’s side in pre-season as per a report in April.

But apart from the 20-year-old, the Sky Blues, like any club have signed players from across the world.

If Tony Adams is against multi-club ownership in general, it would emerge as a surprise why he has correlated his views with Manchester City plucking talent out of those clubs.

As for as Adams’ point regarding Arsenal goes, they would naturally have to spend big to compete with City, having failed to challenge for a title for years.

More importantly, Tony Adams’ point about multi-club ownership has no correlation between Manchester City and the Gunners’ title fight.
