'Deflated buffoon' Trump is 'psychologically' damaged by his felony convictions: expert

The dark cloud of 34 felony convictions in a Manhattan courtroom has done deep psychological damage to Donald Trump that he will never be able to shed after the public humiliation.

That is the opinion of former federal prosecutor Kenneth McCallion in an interview with Salon's Chauncey DeVega where he also said there is no way the former president will get the conviction tossed on appeal even if he can get it before the Supreme Court.

McCallion, who wrote "Treason & Betrayal: The Rise and Fall of Individual-1," where he accused Trump of being "co-opted" by Russian President Vladimir Putin, explained that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's prosecution and the resulting verdict are "bullet-proof," but just as importantly they exposed the former president as a "bully" who can be taken down.

Pressed by what happened in the trial, the former prosecutor claimed Trump has only himself to blame for the devastating verdict after claiming he would testify and then chickened out.

"When push came to shove, Trump sat there silently in the courtroom and did not testify. He did not defend himself. Trump is like a common schoolyard bully. When they are confronted, they wilt," he observed. "Trump put up a strong tough guy facade for a while, but at the end of the trial he looked like a deflated balloon, more accurately a deflated buffoon."

Having written extensively about Trump and his upbringing, the attorney suggested it won't be possible for the former president to ever get over what has befallen him.

"I do not believe that Donald Trump is going to seriously recover from the blow of being found guilty and now being a convicted felon. Trump cannot accept it psychologically. He lives in an alternative universe that is very different from the one the rest of us live in," he explained.
