'Ludicrous, ridiculous, dangerous and incendiary': Ex-Trump lawyer rips Judge Cannon’s 'palpable bias'

In 2017 and 2018, former federal prosecutor Ty Cobb was part of the Trump Administration's legal team. But these days, he is vehemently critical of Donald Trump and isn't shy about saying that the presumptive 2024 GOP presidential nominee is unfit to return to the White House.

Cobb has had a lot to say about Trump's legal problems, and he believes that Judge Aileen Cannon has handled the Mar-a-Lago documents case very badly.

During a Wednesday, June 5 appearance on CNN, the attorney slammed Cannon for rejecting special counsel Jack Smith's request for a gag order against Trump and for repeatedly keeping the case from going to trial.

Cobb told Burnett, "Judge Cannon is kicking the can down the road as only she can, and delaying the trial — which is clearly her purpose. And when I say purpose, it is purposeful now. It's not mere ineptitude now; this is clearly a palpable bias on her part."

The former federal prosecutor predicted that Cannon will eventually be removed from the case.

Smith requested a gag order in response to Trump claiming that when FBI agents searched Mar-a-Lago in 2022, it was part of a plot by President Joe Biden and other Democrats to assassinate him — a claim that U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland has attacked as baseless and irresponsible.

Cobb shares Smith's concerns that Trump's claims could endanger law enforcement.

"I don't find anything that (Cannon) does at this stage of the game surprising as long as it favors the former president," Cobb told Burnett. "But it is shocking to me as a former federal prosecutor, as somebody who has many friends in law enforcement."

Cobb continued, "Heaven forbid that somebody in law enforcement gets killed because of these false claims that Jack Smith intended to have the former president assassinated. It's ludicrous, it's ridiculous, it's dangerous and it’s incendiary. Not to take that seriously and to toss that because she didn't like the way they conferred…. They mentioned in the papers that they conferred."
